Sushi Station... revisited

Last week, during spring break, my mom took us to Sushi Station. Sushi Station (SS for short) is my FAVORITE place to eat. I love it. My sisters love it. My mom loves it.

Sushi Station has recently been on the local news and on the WTTW show "Check Please" so it is always busy. During the week SS opens at 11:30 a.m., we were there at 11:38 a.m. and got the last available table.

That is me and my Station Roll...
How embarrassing, I am sitting next to
my sisters American Girl Doll. Yuck.

My favorite rolls are Station Rolls. They are yummy. A Station Roll is crab salad and masago wrapped in seaweed and rice. 4 pieces for $2. Quite a bargain! I think I ate 8 rolls that day.

Station Roll

Piper had Tamago which is cooked egg on top of rice with a ribbon of seaweed to hold it together. My sister McKenzie says that Tamago tastes like an omelet made with maple syrup. I will take her word for it because I like my eggs warm, not cold.

Tamago

McKenzie had a few different kinds of sushi. Her favorites are Tamago, Station Rolls, Philadelphia Rolls (cream cheese, avocado and salmon wrapped in seaweed and rice), and she always tries something new every time we visit. This time she tried a Dream Roll... I do not know what is in the Dream Roll but if it does not taste like a Station Roll, it is not dreamy to me.

McKenzie eats with her eyes closed.

My mom has a bunch of favorites; the Godzilla Roll (cream cheese, crab and salmon wrapped in seaweed and rice and with tempura) and the Hanako Roll (cream cheese, tempura crumbs, crab and green onions topped with mayo and teriyaki sauce) are her favorites from way back but recently she has a new favorite. The Cajun Roll. She does not know what is in the Cajun Roll but she knows it is delicious and spicy!

Cajun Roll

For dessert my sister and I always get creme puffs. They are wonderful.

Sushi Station

The Good:

** The Sushi is always fresh and yummy!

** The waiters and waitresses are always really super nice to kids.

The Bad:

** If you do not get there early, there is a long wait.

Corner Bakery

This is my bear Joe with the city behind him....

Yesterday we went with my daddy to downtown Chicago. He needed to get his passport updated and my mom wanted to walk around "the greatest city" on the planet earth.

The passport thing took forever and my mom and sisters were getting tired of walking around in the rain so we stopped into a Corner Bakery for something to snack on.

We were in the "Financial District" of Chicago at lunchtime and my mom seemed to be a little on edge. We found three seats at a hightop table thing near a big window. It was p
erfect because I could move around without being in the way and there was room for the stroller.

We ordered a bagel and a coke. Happy day for us when we found out it was buy one bagel get one free. Mackie and I ate the bagels and mom rocked Pi to sleep. The bagels were really yummy and it was fun to people watch.

After what seemed like forever... wait, it was forever, we decided to move to a regular table so Piper could eat. Mom ordered two more bagels and a bowl of Tomato Basil Soup for me. I love soup!!

The soup was delicious!! Piper and I really enjoyed it!

The Good:

** The soup was yummy!

** Two for one bagels! Yippee!

** The view of Chicago.

The Bad:

** It was loud in there because it was lunch time.

Kosta's

Yesterday we went for lunch at a new place called Kosta's.

Kosta's is a fast-food/dine-in/take-out kind of place. It is located in a strip mall near a soccer store and a Thai restaurant.

The restaurant is really big. Plenty of seating and it looks like there is a back room for small parties. There is also a small game room located in the back.

My mom and dad ordered Gyro's for themselves, the 2 pc. chicken tender kids combo meal for me and the grilled cheese pita for Piper.

The Good:

** My mom and dad said the gyros were really good. They were not greasy and the meat/onion/tomato ratio was spot on!

** The chicken tenders were really good too. The breading was really yummy, the chicken was all white meat and the BBQ sauce was fantastic!

** The fries were fresh and Piper loved them

** They have Pepsi products at Kosta's.

** The restaurant was really clean and service was fast.

The Bad:

** They didn't give us an or
der of fries.

** They over-charged my mom and dad about $5.

Nikko Sushi

Last weekend my mom and dad took me and Piper for sushi. As you know, I love sushi. My favorite sushi place is Sushi Station but lately, it is really hard to get a table there. So, my dad decided to take me here. It was great! We showed up at 2:15 not knowing that they stopped serving lunch at 3:00. The nice waitress let us know that the sushi kitchen would only be open for 15 more minutes so we placed our order right away.

Our sushi came with miso soup and a salad (with fruity vinaigrette dressing) and four shrimp egg rolls (two spicy and two non-spicy). The shrimp egg rolls must have been good because my mom and dad did not offer any to me.

I had Miso Soup and Spicy Tina Rolls minus the spicy.

Piper had some of my moms sushi. She had "Godzillar" Rolls and some rice.

The staff was really nice and fun. It was a nice place and I'm sure we will go again.

I scream... you scream... we all scream... for Krispy Kreme!

After eating hot dogs we did some shopping and decided to stop some place special for a snack... Krispy Kreme!

We pulled into the parking lot just as they were flipping the "HOT" sign on. We walked in and my mom explained how the donuts are made. It was fun! As we rounded the corner to place our order, they nice girl behind the corner gave us a FREE HOT donut. It was good (and messy!). The girl behind the counter also gave me a Krispy Kreme paper hat and some cool Halloween stickers.

Here I am with my donut (and Joe).

And here is Pi with the paper hat.

Big Sammy's

Yesterday, my dad, mom and Piper and I went to have hot dogs for lunch. My dad heard of a great hot dog place, but when we got there, it was closed... so we decided to go to Big Sammy's Hot dogs.

I had a hot dog plain with French fries. I loved the French fries. They were yummy.

Piper loved the French Fries too.

My dad had hot dogs too but my mom had a chicken gyros. She said it was really good. Piper liked that too!

The restaurant is set in a strip mall thingy so it's not huge. The tables are family style. Sometimes you have to sit very close to people you don't know. They have one of those games where you move the claw thingy and it falls and collects a stuffed animal... what a waste of money (that's what my mom says). They also have a bunch of gumball type machine things filled with cheap and dangerous toys (another thing my mom says). It makes it hard for a 2 year old to sit still in a place like that.

My mom... the slacker AND... The "Castle" Place

I know, I know. It has been for-ev-er since my mom updated my Foodie Baby site. She was really busy growing and having a baby. I have a new sister... but not that new, she is already 8 months old. She is fun except when she gets into my Cars cars or my Thomas trains.

Anyway, my mom is going to try harder to keep up with this. She missed the opportunity to blog about a lot of really great places... especially while we were at Disney.

Last night my mom and dad, Piper, Alex and a bunch of mom and dads friends went to The Village Squire in Crystal Lake. My parents hate this place so I was surprised we were going.

The outside of the restaurant is super cool!

It looks like a castle, doesn't it?

The inside is really cool too. There is a really cool fireplace in the center of the walk-in area and on the weekends, they have a guy there playing the guitar. Cool.

Usually when we go to the Squire, we get a bowl of popcorn. It's always fresh and warm and yummy... but we didn't get any at this visit. Other tables had popcorn but we didn't. Strike One.

I ordered pizza. It was yummy. I ate quite a bit. I also had some of my moms French Onion Soup. I liked that too (she did not like it). I liked everything I ate but no one else at the table had a good meal. That's sad because there were 8 of us.

This is me and my brother Alex waiting for our food.

My parents said that was the last time we are going to the Squire. It used to be my moms favorite restaurant but now she doesn't like it one tiny bit.

Logan talk Thai....

Thai Food at Wild Orchid Thai Bistro April 28, 2006

Wild Orchid is really yummy. I wouldn't say it is a great place for kids (I am usually the only kid in the restaurant). They have a lot of windows and hardwood floors, so everything I say echoes... Sometimes, I talk louder because I love the way it sounds! The restaurant is beautiful!

Wild Orchid doesn't have a lot of choices for kids. They have a couple appetizers and a couple main courses, but not a lot to choose from. I usually have the crab Rangoon and the tigers purses (appetizers) and some sticky rice. My mom always has something special for me in the diaper bag... just in case we can't find anything on the menu to eat.

The service here is really good, especially if you happen to get the teenaged boy as a waiter. He is really nice and knowledgeable.

My dad loves Basi Bangkok or the Pad Pong Noodle. My mom loves the shrimp with potatoes in coconut milk.

This restaurant would be a great 'date night" place to eat... without kids like me. :)

Can I have some Guacamole with my chips please?

Mexican Food at Tacos El Norte... yum! April 24, 2006

My parents love this place. Why? Two reasons: 1). It's cheap and 2). It's good!

The food here is great. The guacamole is fantastic and the Spanish rice is my favorite. The atmosphere is very laid back. No dress code for this place!

The waiter is really nice and calls me "Loooogan".

Mommy.... mommy.... mommy

Okay, so my mommy hasn't been keeping up with MY foodie site. She promises me she is going to try. So, for now, she is going to add some and try to remember what I ate that night (right, mommy?).

Here she goes!
